Strictly Come Dancing reveals week 1 dance and song choices ahead of first live show

Strictly Come Dancing's celebrities will take their first competitive steps onto the dancefloor this weekend in this season's debut live show – and we now know what dances and songs they'll be taking on. The show launched last weekend, with a confirmation of this year's couples.

The BBC has now confirmed the first dances of the season, and first up are Bethany Antonia and Nancy Xu, who will take on a Quickstep to Celeste's 'Stop This Flame', while Dame Sarah Storey and Julian Caillon will also Quickstep to 'C’est Magnifique' by Kay Starr, as will Cach Mercer and Maddie Ingoldsby to Bruno Mars's 'I Just Might'.

Dani Dyer and Nikita Kuzmin will Samba to Zara Larsson's pop banger 'Lush Life', while Delta Goodrem and Kai Widdrington will also make their debut with a Samba, this time to 'Baianá' by Barbatuques. Will Best and Dianne Buswell will take on the same dance to Robbie Williams classic 'Rock DJ'.

A few Tangos are in order too, with Jaime Winstone and Carlos Gu taking on the dance to Donna Summer's disco classic 'I Feel Love', while Chris Appleton and Amy Dowden will do the dance to Alice Merton's 'No Roots'.

There are also a few Cha Cha Chas, with Lacey Turner and Vito Coppola dancing to Whitney Houston classic 'How Will I Know', Melanie Walters and Aljaz Skorjanec to 'Don’t Go Breaking My Heart' by Elton John and Kiki Dee, Graeme Hall and Lauren Oakley to 'Hound Dog (Smokey Joe's Café version)', and Shaun Wright-Phillips and Alexis Warr to Paul Russell's 'Lil Boo Thang'.

Meanwhile, Tabby Stoecker and Mark Karmalita will take on a Jive to KATSEYE's 'Animal', while John Nellis and Katya Jones will Foxtrot to Alex Warren's mega-hit 'Ordinary', and Lawrence Robb and Jowita Przystal will do a Paso Doble to Harry Styles' 'Aperture'.

The contestants and pros aren't the only ones who have danced this season, with new hosts Emma Willis, Johannes Radebe and Josh Widdicombe showing off their best moves in last weekend's launch show.

Emma admitted she "loved it", recalling: "Like everything with this show, you really want to throw yourself into it and try everything so I was ready to dive in. Then suddenly I was like – oh, hold on a minute – this group number is huge!

"It’s something I’ve always wanted to do, so once I got over the feeling of looking a bit silly, I absolutely loved it. It was so fun and it made me understand how people get the dancing bug!"

Dancer Johannes noted that "dancing was the easy bit" and "natural habitat" for him, adding: "Emma and Josh, on the other hand… I may have had a few notes! Although I tried very hard not to become that professional dancer who is giving everybody corrections when nobody has asked.

"I think my main advice was just to enjoy it and commit," he added. "On Strictly, you cannot do anything by halves. If you’re going to dance, DANCE. And if you’re going to wear the sequins, wear all of them!"
