Phillies placing 14-game winner Luzardo on IL with shoulder injury
The Philadelphia Phillies are putting starting pitcher Jesús Luzardo on the injured list, manager Don Mattingly said on Tuesday. Luzardo won't be eligible to return until the last game of the season.
The All-Star hurler was scratched from Saturday's against the Atlanta Braves with stiffness in his left shoulder. He underwent an MRI that showed no serious issues.
The 28-year-old Luzardo is having a huge season, posting a record of 14-5 with a 2.87 ERA. In his most recent outing against the Braves, he struck out 12 in the first shutout of his career.
