Virat Kohli and Harry Kane haven't often been seen in the same frame on too many occasions but the stories of their camaraderie and friendship are well known. As Kane lifted the Ballon d'Or 2026 title, becoming the first English players in 25 years to win the individual honour, Kohli took to Instagram to pay a glorious tribute. Over the last couple of years, Kohli hasn't been as active on social media as he used to be, but as Kane won the Golden Ball, the Indian cricketing icon knew exactly how he needed to congratulate him.

While the world of social media is divided over Kane's triumph, ahead of Kylian Mbappe and Lamine Yamal, for Kohli, the Bayern Munich forward was the 'deserved winner'.

"Harry my friend, you deserve every bit of this award for your resilience, hard work and honesty with which you've carried yourself through all these years playing football at the top. Really happy for you. God bless you and your family. They must all be very proud of you as you would be of your own journey. My best wishes always. Congratulations," Kohli wrote in a post.

What Harry Kane Said On Ballon d'Or 2026 Win

In an emotional speech after his coronation, Kane recalled his journey as a young footballer who faced early rejections before making a mark at Tottenham Hotspur. He also thanked his teammates, fans and all the coaches he played under for helping him become the player he is today.

"Thank you again to France Football for the Ballon d'Or, for putting on this amazing event. Being here in London as well has made it extra special. It looked like a good omen today, so thank you very much.

"Thank you to everyone who voted for me. I can imagine it was very tough this year, with some of the incredible players I was up against. Some of my team-mates and some of the world-class players that are in the room tonight.

"Congratulations to all the winners, all the nominees today. It's a massive showing of what determination and hard work can truly achieve, so well done. My Bayern Munich teammates, I've got a few here tonight. Without you guys, it wouldn't be possible. The way you guys push me, the way we compete, it just makes me a better player. It makes me want to improve. So thank you very much.

He also had a special message for his former club, Tottenham Hotspur, thanking them for giving him the platform to hone his skills.

"I want to say thank you to Tottenham Hotspur as well. I wouldn't be where I am today without Tottenham, for sure. I was there since 11 years old. All the guidance, all the coaches, you allow me to live my dream. Without all those moments together... all the ups and downs along the way of that journey that has led me to this moment today. To all the Bayern Munich fans, England fans, Spurs fans, all of you around the world... the support you give me in the stadiums, around the world, wherever it may be, I appreciate it all. I remember being a fan not long ago, and what it means to play football. It was a dream of mine. So whenever I can give back to you guys is a real honour and a privilege to do so.
