CALAPAN CITY — Two residents of Sibuyan town in Romblon are among the missing passengers of the ferry that caught fire while sailing from Manila to Coron town in Palawan on Wednesday.

The missing passengers were identified as John Rey Marin, 35, and Jonas Rivas, 28, both residents of Sibuyan and workers of Alumpich Company based in Cavite, according to a report on Thursday.

The two reportedly traveled to Coron to visit their company’s project site and boarded the M/V June Aster in Manila.

Their relative, Ton Formilles, appealed for information that could help locate Marin and Rivas as search and rescue efforts continued.

The vessel caught fire while en route to Coron, prompting rescue operations for passengers and crew members.

Authorities have yet to release further details on the circumstances of the fire but have confirmed the deaths of five people. /dp
