Investors have reversed all global AI net buying since 2025 – Goldman Sachs Prime Book

All the cumulative global AI net buying from hedge funds at the start of 2025 has been reversed, according to Goldman Sachs.

Global AI (Goldman Sachs Prime Book )
Goldman’s Prime Book showed that, on Wednesday, hedge funds sold global AI stocks at the second-fastest pace in a year, with sales outpacing short sales at a 3.5 to 1 ratio.
The only time this happened was when hedge fund Situational Awareness, which was founded by former OpenAI researcher Leopold Aschenbrenner, collapsed in July after a market rout and liquidity squeeze of AI-related assets. The fund sank 67%, reducing the assets from $45B to $10B.

Global AI (Goldman Sachs Prime Book )
Hedge funds have now net-sold global AI stocks over five consecutive trading sessions, erasing almost two years of net purchases within a single week, according to Goldman Sachs Prime Brokerage.
Long-term positioning of global AI, however, still sits in the 83rd percentile over a three-year period, and Goldman Sachs’ prime book leverage is still close to five-year extremes, the brokerage bank said.
