Fire hits part of Angeles City public market
MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga – A fire hit a portion of the Pampanga Public Market in Angeles City on Wednesday night, displacing dozens of stall owners.
The Bureau of Fire Protection in Angeles City declared the blaze “contained” early Thursday, although firefighters were still working to fully extinguish it.

Market supervisor Aiza Zapanta Santos said the fire damaged the market’s sari-sari (mixed goods) section. No casualties were reported.

Angeles City Mayor Carmelo Lazatin II ordered the temporary closure of the sari-sari and wet sections of the market as a safety precaution.
Police officers were also deployed around the market to prevent possible looting or other incidents while authorities assessed the damage, the city government said.
As of Thursday morning, authorities had yet to determine the cause of the fire, the number of stalls affected and the total value of the damage. /dp
