Search and rescue (SAR) teams have recovered the second and final missing passenger of a jeepney that was swept away while crossing a spillway in Rosario, Batangas, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Monday.

In a statement, the Coast Guard District Southern Tagalog (CGDSTL) said the body was located at around 8:30 a.m.

“Two Fatalities Recovered: First body recovered approximately 3 kilometers downstream on 04 October; second body recovered today, 05 October,” the Coast Guard reported.

The second body was retrieved 800 meters downstream from the spillway along the Pinansingin River in Sitio Kilo, Barangay Colongan.

“With this latest retrieval, all 14 individuals onboard the passenger jeepney swept away during Saturday’s incident have been fully accounted for,” the PCG said.

A total of 12 passengers were rescued, evacuated, and evaluated by Coast Guard medical personnel on Saturday.

Authorities were assisting in the transfer and formal turnover of the second body to the proper authorities and the victims' family.

The Coast Guard and local disaster management agencies expressed condolences to the families of the two fatalities.

Authorities reminded the public and motorists to exercise extreme caution and avoid crossing spillways and rivers when water levels are high or currents are strong. —RF, GMA News
