Photos: Egypt’s Prime Minister visits Tanzania to attend inauguration of Julius Nyerere Dam

From the moment the EgyptAir plane took off for Dodoma, the Tanzanian capital, carrying Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and the Egyptian delegation participating in the inauguration of the Julius Nyerere Hydroelectric Dam and Power Plant, celebration filled the air.

This significant Egyptian-Tanzanian achievement boasts a production capacity of 2,115 megawatts, and the flight carried the message that Egypt had fulfilled its promise of partnership in development with its Tanzanian allies.

During the outbound flight, the Prime Minister made a point of greeting the journalists and television channel representatives accompanying the official delegation, as well as officials from the Egyptian consortium “Arab Contractors-Elsewedy Electric,” and the engineers and technicians involved in the project’s implementation.

Madbouly expressed his sincere thanks, appreciation and pride to all the workers on the project, recognizing their sincere tireless efforts to see to the end.

He praised their honorable performance and high efficiency, which made them the best ambassadors for Egypt in the African continent.

The name “Julius Nyerere” was prominently featured throughout the flight –  it could be seen within the aircraft that bore the project’s name and the logos of the two Egyptian companies, Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric, the consortium executing the project.

The pillows and blankets provided for the flight displayed “Julius Nyerere” alongside the Egyptian and Tanzanian flags, a symbolic gesture reflecting the deep ties between the two nations and highlighting the significance of one of the most prominent Egyptian-Tanzanian cooperation projects.

As the Egyptian delegation traveled to participate in the project’s inauguration, a project that took approximately five years to complete, these small details reflected a remarkable achievement involving thousands of engineers, technicians, and workers.

Tireless workforce

The workforce in the project comprised around 12,000 employees, including some 1,700 Egyptian engineers and technicians, who contributed their expertise and efforts to the realization of this monumental undertaking.

The significance of the occasion was reflected in the atmosphere of the flight itself, as the pilot and cabin crew expressed their delight at participating in this exceptional journey, carrying an Egyptian delegation to a landmark event in the history of cooperation between Egypt and Tanzania.

Julius Nyerere wasn’t just the destination of the flight – it was present in every detail; from the project’s name and the logos of the two Egyptian companies involved, to the Egyptian and Tanzanian flags that adorned the aircraft.

From Cairo to Dodoma, the plane carried more than just an official delegation; it carried with it a story of Egyptian-African success, embodied in the Julius Nyerere Project, a testament to the ability of Egyptian companies and expertise to execute major development projects across the African continent.

The project also represents a practical rolemodel of Egyptian-African cooperation, where partnerships and agreements have been transformed into tangible development achievements on the ground.
