Taiwan extends gift voucher program for travelers

Translate

The Tourism Administration has extended its NT$600 (US$18.31) gift voucher program for foreign transit passengers at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to the end of 2028.

The voucher program, which was scheduled to run from Nov. 1 last year to Oct. 31, has been extended to Dec. 31, 2028, or until the allocated funds are exhausted, the agency said.

The extension was intended to encourage transit passengers to enter the country and spend money at the airport, while aligning the program with the expected completion of Terminal 3 by the end of next year, it said.

The program was initially allocated NT$22 million, enough to issue about 36,666 vouchers worth NT$600 each, the agency said.

As of Oct. 31, 33,525 vouchers had been distributed, with the remaining supply expected to be exhausted by the end of this month, it said.

To ensure a smooth continuation of the program, the agency said it plans to print an additional 40,000 vouchers, with the amount subject to adjustment depending on actual distribution and demand.

Launched on Nov. 1 last year, the “Enter Taiwan, Enjoy a Gift!” program offers NT$600 gift vouchers to passengers holding non-Republic of China passports who transit through the Taoyuan airport and enter Taiwan for stays of up to 24 hours.

Eligible travelers must first register on the campaign Web site, then present their passports and boarding passes for connecting flights to collect the vouchers at the Tourism Administration’s Visitor Service Centers upon arrival at the airport.

The voucher is valid at participating businesses within the airport, including restaurants, duty-free stores, souvenir shops and other retail services.

A list of participating businesses is available on the campaign Web site for easy reference.

As Taiwan’s major international gateway, the Taoyuan airport sees a large number of transit passengers — 6.69 million passengers last year, according to the Taoyuan International Airport Corp.
