Exclusive: Emmerdale confirms new long-running Joe Tate revenge story

Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale producer Sophie Roper has promised "fireworks" as Joe Tate and Sadie King team up to destroy Caleb and Ruby Miligan's marriage.

Show bosses recently announced plans for Joe and Sadie to form a surprising alliance, which could spell huge trouble for the Miligans in the coming months.

A grief-stricken Joe is still determined to get revenge against Caleb and Ruby, blaming them for the role they played in the death of his fiancée Dawn Fletcher.

Next week, Joe asks Sadie to gather evidence against Caleb and Ruby so that he can use it against them. Sadie soon vows to go one better – claiming that she can throw a bomb into their marriage by seducing Caleb.

Speaking exclusively to Inside Soap, Sophie explained: "I don't think the feud between Caleb and Joe will ever go away! The stakes are far too high – and so much has happened with the rivalry between them.

"What you're seeing now is Joe back to his villainous best, as he's absolutely hellbent on revenge. But of course, all of that is driven by grief and there are moments where we see his vulnerability. We're absolutely with him in understanding it – but not necessarily condoning it!"

She continued: "We've now got a really dangerous combination, with Joe and Sadie joining forces and this partnership.

"Joe alone is already enough of a threat, but when you put him with Sadie, the Miligans have really got a duo there who'll set fireworks off into their life and marriage! That story is going to evolve in the coming weeks and months…"

Sophie kept tight-lipped on whether Caleb and Ruby are strong enough to survive their enemies' meddling, although she did hint that she's a big fan of them as a couple.

She said: "Caleb and Ruby are a fantastic, dynamic couple. We've tested them so much that they're pretty unbreakable for me!

"But this is Sadie King, and she gets what she wants. It will be really interesting to see whether they can withstand what Sadie and Joe are going to throw their way. There are fireworks ahead for that character group."
