Man remanded over desecration of Tumpat mosque

Translate

PASIR MAS: A man has been remanded for four days starting today to assist in investigations into a mischief incident at a mosque in Kampung Berangan, Tumpat.

The remand order, valid until Oct 20, was issued by magistrate Wan Ashrul Afham Mohamad Azmi at the magistrate's court here today.

Tumpat police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Khairi Shafie said the 38-year-old suspect was arrested in Kota Baru yesterday evening.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 295 of the Penal Code for defiling a place of worship and Section 427 for mischief.

It was previously reported that on the morning of Oct 5, a man entered Masjid Al-Aziz Al-Hadi in Kota SPP Warisan, Kampung Berangan, carrying a container before pouring a greenish-brown liquid across the male prayer area and lecture table.

The liquid was believed to be a mixture of animal faeces, fur, bone fragments, and maggots, prompting cleaning contractors to perform the ritual purification process (sertu) across almost the entire ground floor area.

The man had arrived at the mosque on a motorcycle before breaking a glass door to pour the contents of the container inside.
