Knicks React After Player Tyler Kolek Calls Taylor Swift Fakest Fan

Travis Kelce Teases Celebrating First Holidays as a "Married Man" After Taylor Swift Wedding
The New York Knicks are pledging allegiance to Taylor Swift.
Shortly after the NBA team’s point guard Tyler Kolek declared the Grammy winner as one of their fakest fans, the Knicks went on the defensive for the “Love Story” singer.
“Taylor Swift has been a Knicks fan for many years, has a long history with Madison Square Garden,” a spokesperson for the team said in a Nov. 6 statement to E! News, “and we are incredibly appreciative of her support of the organization.”
Kolek and his fellow point guard Miles James “Deuce” McBride found themselves in some trouble during an interview with NBA 2K League, when they were faced with the question: “Who’s the fakest celebrity fan you’ve seen sitting courtside in an NBA game?” And Kolek did his part to keep it 100 on the land, the sea, the sky—by calling out his perceived fair-weather fans.
“At the Knicks games, I would say it’s very performative,” Kolek mused in a video posted to YouTube Nov. 5, “like they just want to be seen at the game, they’re not necessarily fans.”
The 25-year-old, who is beginning his third season with the team, suggested that Swift wasn’t actually a big fan of the Knicks, noting that beyond seeing her at some playoff games, “I don’t know if I’ve seen her at any other games.”
And while McBride, 26, agreed with his teammate, he was a little nervous about the admission, saying, “Swifties not gonna like that answer.”

Doubling down with his qualms about her fandom aside, Kolek did concede that the “Fortnight” singer—who married Travis Kelce at the Knicks home court of Madison Square Garden July 3—does have quite a packed schedule. As he put it, “I guess she’s got a lot going on so she can’t come all the time, but it’s a little performative.”
Still, Swift—who has been photographed at several games over the years—was one of the most vocal supporters of the Knicks as they won the NBA championship earlier this year. In fact, she attended game four with friends Alana Haim, Este Haim and Mariksa Hargitay wearing punny custom New York Knicks merch, with Swift’s shirt reading “Stevie Knicks.”

The 36-year-old and Kelce also took on the role of cheer captain for the team during the May Eastern Conference finals in Cleveland, Ohio, with the Rocket Arena chair she sat later being put up for auction by The Realest and selling for $7,000.
Of course, this isn’t the first time Swift has faced questions of her Knicks fandom, with analyst Monica McNutt saying during the June 10 broadcast of the championship game, “Is that Taylor Swift down there? She’s not a Knicks fan. Get out of here girl.”
McNutt later apologized for misspeaking, telling TMZ in June, “Shoutout T-Swift. We can be united."
