Good American Family season 2 casts The White Lotus and The Last of Us stars for new true story

Hulu has now lined up its leads for the second season of true-crime anthology Good American Family, with Isabela Merced and Patrick Schwarzenegger set to play one of the most notorious couples of the 1990s.

Merced, best known for her role as Dina in HBO's The Last of Us, has been confirmed to lead the cast as Lorena Bobbitt, while Schwarzenegger, who starred as Saxon in the third season of The White Lotus, takes on the role of her husband, John Bobbitt.

The new instalment of the anthology series remains untitled but will be inspired by the story of the Virginia couple. It was confirmed back in August that Good American Family would be taking on a new story entirely away from the Natalia Grace saga of its first season.

Instead, focus has now been turned to the Bobbitts, whose 1993 case became one of the most infamous tabloid stories of the decade.

What ensued was "a media circus that treated trauma as entertainment, launched a thousand dirty jokes, and ignited a gender war," as per the series description. This isn't the first time that the Bobbitt case has been dug into on-screen, following Lifetime's 2020 TV movie I Was Lorena Bobbitt and the 2019 Prime Video docuseries Lorena, produced by Jordan Peele.

It had been previously reported that season 1 star and executive producer Ellen Pompeo would return in her behind the scenes role alongside series creator, writer and executive producer Katie Robbins.

No other casting has yet been announced for the new instalment but with Merced and Schwarzenegger at its helm, fans will undoubtedly be intrigued to see how they bring the story to life. Aside from her role in The Last of Us, Merced is known for her roles in Dora and the Lost City of Gold, Madame Web, Superman and Peacemaker. She is due to return for The Last of Us season 3 and the Superman follow-up Man of Tomorrow.

As for Schwarzenegger, he more recently starred in The White Lotus but is also known for his roles in Gen V, The Staircase and American Sports Story, as well as recently starring opposite Margaret Qualley in Prime Video romantic drama Love of Your Life.
