2027: Nigerians ready to vote Tinubu out, says APM

The Allied People’s Movement has said Nigerians have rejected the ruling All Progressives Congress and are ready to vote President Bola Tinubu out in the 2027 presidential election.

APM made the claim in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Abubakar Yusuf, on Thursday while reacting to Tinubu’s return from his holiday in France on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.

The party said the President’s return was met with little enthusiasm from ordinary Nigerians, arguing that his absence or presence had made little difference to citizens grappling with hunger, hardship and insecurity.

APM stated, “The Allied People’s Movement notes the lacklustre return of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from his prolonged holidays in France on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, but observes that he was not missed by Nigerians as his presence or absence makes little or no difference to their daily struggles with hunger, misery and insecurity.

“Unlike in other climes where regular citizens throng the streets in celebration to welcome their leaders, Nigerians snubbed President Tinubu’s return in spite of the advance announcement by the Presidency, leaving Mr President to be received by a handful of his officials, kitchen cabinet, party members and rented drummers.

“The refusal of regular Nigerians to welcome President Tinubu is a clear indication that the citizens no longer attach value to his presence, given his abdication of duties and abysmal performance in office, which has brought the nation to its knees in the last three years.

“Worse still, the video evidence of Nigerians on the streets of Lagos booing Mr President on arrival reflects deep-seated resentment and dissatisfaction with his leadership and signals his imminent defeat in the January 2027 Presidential election.”

The APM accused Tinubu of spending public funds on costly foreign trips while remaining disconnected from Nigerians’ welfare.

The statement read, “Since assumption of office, President Tinubu has continued to spend public funds on very expensive foreign holiday trips that deliver no tangible benefits to Nigerians.

“He has become completely disconnected and appears indifferent to issues relating to the wellbeing of the citizens.

“Today, in the mouths of the majority of Nigerians and even foreigners, President Tinubu’s government represents national hopelessness and misery.

“In the over three years in office, the Tinubu administration has remained insensitive to the plight of the people with its ill-conceived policies that have wrecked our productive sector, exterminated millions of means of livelihood, and brought untold hardship on families; the reason Nigerians are determined to vote him out of office in January.

“The message is clear; Nigerians have rejected the APC-led administration and are ready, as Resetters, to vote in a new leadership as embodied in the presidential candidate of the APM and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.”

The APM said the warm reception accorded its presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, across the country reflected his growing popularity and acceptance, adding that Nigerians viewed his candidacy as an opportunity to reset the country.

The party urged Nigerians to remain committed to its cause and vote out Tinubu in 2027, saying a Makinde/Daura administration would provide responsive leadership and a new direction for the country.

Carpeting Tinubu’s Independence Day address, the Seyi Makinde Presidential Campaign Organisation described it as vague and lacking concrete solutions to Nigeria’s economic hardship, poverty and insecurity.

In a statement signed by its Director of Strategic Communications, Richard Ihediwa, the campaign said the address failed to present specific and measurable policy commitments on major national challenges that Nigerians could hold the government accountable for.

It faulted the administration’s economic reforms, particularly the removal of petrol subsidy and naira flotation, arguing that they had worsened the cost of living and weakened citizens’ purchasing power.

“The Makinde/Daura Presidential Campaign Organisation dismisses the 66th Independence Day address by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a rhetorical exercise bereft of clear plans to address the crushing economic hardship, pervasive poverty and widespread insecurity in the country.

“It is indeed disappointing that the President’s address failed to present specific, measurable and binding economic and security policy commitments for which Nigerians can hold him accountable. Instead, the speech remained vague and failed to provide concrete answers or direction on major national issues.

“This lack of binding policy commitment shows that the All Progressives Congress administration has no solution to the challenges facing our nation.

“In the four consecutive Independence Anniversary speeches presented by President Tinubu since he assumed office in 2023, Nigerians have listened to promises of a better future that never came.

“It is absurd for Mr President to claim in his speech that his administration’s reforms did not weaken the economy when the abrupt removal of subsidy on petrol and the floating of the Naira created a calamitous economic shockwave that led to an astronomical rise in the pump price of fuel from N187 per litre to N1,500 today and the weakening of our currency from N460 to USD1 to about NI,380 today.”

The campaign council argued that Tinubu’s reforms had negatively affected the productive sector, led to business closures and increased the cost of transportation, food, healthcare and other necessities, while reducing citizens’ purchasing power and worsening poverty.

It also said several multinational companies, including GlaxoSmithKline, Procter & Gamble, Kimberly-Clark, PZ Cussons, Equinor, Microsoft and Uber, had exited Nigeria.

The council further faulted the President’s promise of prosperity, saying his speech failed to outline concrete plans to tackle the country’s infrastructure deficit, boost agriculture and manufacturing, or address the rising national debt.

The statement read in part, “Is it not ironical that while Mr President is promising prosperity to Nigerians, his government is still busy seeking more foreign loans, including the recent request for a $1.5 billion loan from the World Bank?

“On insecurity, it is saddening that the Independence Day speech had no soothing or reassuring words to millions of Nigerian families and communities who are victims of the daily killings, maiming and abductions going on under the APC administration.

“It is clear that Nigerians deserve a new leadership; a leadership that listens to them, understands their struggles, takes responsibility and delivers results.

“That is why the people are gravitating towards the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), Engr. Seyi Makinde, who has demonstrated the capacity, energy, commitment and the required blueprint to reset Nigeria to a nation where the security, interest and well-being of all citizens are guaranteed.”
