22 NYPD officers to visit Ghana for humanitarian outreach and police engagement

Translate

Twenty-two officers of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) are expected to visit Ghana from November 10 to 18, 2026, for a humanitarian outreach mission targeting underprivileged children and vulnerable communities.

The mission, organised by the African Law Enforcement Organization (ALEO) under the theme “To Serve and to Protect Beyond Borders,” will combine community support activities with engagements aimed at strengthening professional ties between law enforcement personnel in Ghana and the United States.

ALEO is a non-profit organisation based in Jamaica, New York, comprising active and retired law enforcement and security professionals. It is led by its President, Detective Chibuzo C. Amadi.

The organisation says the mission reflects its commitment to public service beyond policing and geographical boundaries, with a focus on supporting communities in need.

The delegation is scheduled to visit the Ghana Police Service Headquarters on November 10, the day of its expected arrival, for a professional exchange with Ghanaian law enforcement officials.

The officers are also expected to pay a courtesy call at Jubilee House, the seat of Ghana’s Presidency.

The engagements are intended to promote goodwill and strengthen professional relationships between law enforcement personnel in both countries.

Foundations support outreach

The mission has received support from the Magho Foundation, Afro Pop and Exotical Sponges.

The Magho Foundation was instrumental in connecting ALEO with schools and an orphanage in Ghana that it had previously supported.

The connection was facilitated by William Apau, an NYPD officer and ALEO member popularly known as Ministerapau, who founded the Magho Foundation.

The organisers say the outreach will focus on bringing practical support and encouragement to children and vulnerable people in selected Ghanaian communities.

Service beyond borders

The visit reflects the role diaspora-led organisations can play in humanitarian assistance and professional exchange between Ghana and the United States.

For the organisers, the mission is intended to demonstrate how values associated with public service, including protection, unity and community responsibility, can extend beyond the traditional duties of law enforcement.

The delegation is expected to spend eight days in Ghana, undertaking humanitarian activities and professional engagements before concluding its visit on November 18.

Details of the specific communities to be visited and the items or services to be provided have not been outlined in the information released by the organisers.
