The upcoming World of Warcraft expansion for Dungeons and Dragons has officially suffered a delay, according to a new statement issued by parent company Wizards of the Coast, so fans who pre-purchased books or other products may want to take note of what’s going on. The release of D&D: World of Warcraft marks the next big expansion to the popular TTRPG, and kicks off a new era of Universes Beyond, allowing the game to connect to other big franchises, much like how Magic: The Gathering does. The new expansion arrives in November, but there has been an issue.
According to an official statement issued by the Dungeons and Dragons team, which was published on D&D Beyond, some in-store products related to the World of Warcraft expansion’s release have suffered delays. As seen in the statement, due to “an unforeseen delay in shipment in North America, some local hobby or game stores may receive physical product pre-orders for Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft after the November 3 Early Access date.” The team also explains that the delays will “vary locally,” but that some products may arrive a few days after the Early Access date in physical stores.
For reference, the expansion’s official release date is set for November 17, but the Early Access period starts on November 3. According to the team, this delay may affect the D&D: World of Warcraft Gameplay Expansion books, as well as the Murloc Minis, “though many [stores] will receive these items on time.” The company announced that the most impacted product delay “is the Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft Official Miniatures, both the Horde Pack and the Alliance Pack,” both of which are expected to arrive “on or around November 17.”
The official list of potentially impacted items was showcased by Wizards of the Coast:
- Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft Gameplay Expansion
- Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft Gameplay Expansion (alternate-art cover)
- Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft – Collector’s Edition Gameplay Expansion
- Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft Dungeon Master’s Screen
- Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft – Icecrown Citadel Adventure Map Pack
- Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft – Murloc Mini (if applicable)
- Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft Official Miniatures: Horde Pack
- Dungeons & Dragons: World of Warcraft Official Miniatures: Alliance Pack
As is implied by the statement ahead of the release of D&D: World of Warcraft, there is no specific confirmation as to when these products may arrive, as a lot of it will vary locally. The company has confirmed that it is working alongside distribution partners “to get product to stores as quickly as possible.” This is the second major release in a row that gets physical copy delays, as something similar happened with the Arcana Unleashed expansion back in September.
As a point of clarification, this delay is affecting physical pre-order products only. Players who have purchased the digital version of the World of Warcraft books for D&D with a Master Tier subscription on D&D Beyond, for example, will gain access to its contents normally on November 3.
The World of Warcraft expansion will be the final big core release for the TTRPG in 2026, though the company has confirmed that other partnered products will be released from November through the end of the year. In 2027, fans of Dungeons and Dragons can expect a return to the Dark Sun and Greyhawk settings, as well as an official crossover with Star Wars.
