President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. is headed to Singapore for a working visit from October 7 to 11, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Tuesday.
In a statement to the media, the DFA said Marcos was invited to Singapore by Prime Minister Lawrence Wong.
"Ang Working Visit na ito ay bahagi ng inisyatibo ng bansa upang mapalalim ang ating ugnayan sa Singapore, mapalawak ang ating economic engagement, at isulong ang ating kooperasyon sa mga sektor na makatutulong sa kaunlaran ng ating bansa," the statement read.
(This working visit is part of the country's initiative to deepen relations with Singapore, expand economic engagement, and to strengthen cooperation in sectors that would help progress in our country.)
The DFA also said the upcoming meet was important as the Philippines was about to end its chairship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and hand it over to Singapore.
Marcos is also set to attend the 24th Forbes Global CEO Conference to meet with leading business leaders from Singapore and across the world.
This would allow the President to present investment opportunities in the Philippines, the DFA said.
"Bibisita rin ang Pangulo sa Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Institute, upang alamin ang karanasan at expertise ng Singapore sa nuclear technology and safety," the DFA said.
(The President will also visit the Singapore Nuclear Research and Safety Institute to learn more about the experience and expertise of Singapore in nuclear technology and safety.)
This will be Marcos' sixth trip to Singapore, following his visit last July where he also met with Wong to discuss matters related to the chairmanship of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Marcos had also participated in the Milken Institute Private Roundtable Discussion in his last Singapore trip. — VDV, GMA News
