Sade Museum to complement Mandalika MotoGP sports tourism

Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara (ANTARA) - The Sade Museum in Rembitan Village, Central Lombok District, has been prepared as a cultural tourism destination complementing the Mandalika MotoGP, the motorcycle racing world championship.

West Nusa Tenggara Museum Head Ahmad Nuralam stated here on Thursday that his side is currently arranging the Sade Museum's exhibition layout.

"The museum arrangement is being prepared to be presented alongside the Mandalika MotoGP event, which takes place from October 9-11, 2026," he said.

Nuralam explained that the presence of the temporary museum at Sade Traditional Village is part of efforts to show that Mandalika has appeal not only as a sports and tourism destination, but also as a cultural one.

He expressed hope that the Sade Museum will become a space that brings together history, culture, and the lives of the local community with a wider public, including tourists who come to Lombok Island to watch the Mandalika MotoGP races.

"We hope people attending the MotoGP event can also see Sade's history through the museum and reminisce at the same time," he added.

According to earlier reports, a fire hit Sade Traditional Village at around 10 p.m. local time on August 22, 2026. The fire affected 75 traditional houses, eight berugak or gazebos, six sekenam traditional buildings, one mosque, two toilets, and 69 art shops.

Sade Traditional Village, nine kilometers from the Mandalika Circuit, is one of the oldest traditional villages on Lombok Island, dating back to the 16th century and passed down through 15 generations.

The Sade Museum carries the main theme of Traces of Sade's Life and Identity, divided into five sub-themes, which are Traces of Sade, Sade's Living Space and Culture, Sade Goes Global, When Fire Changed Sade, and Sade Rises and Heads Toward Glory.

Sade Museum exhibition curator Bunyamin noted that the concept is aimed not only at introducing Sade's history, but also at explaining the identity of a community that lives on after part of its physical heritage was lost in the fire.

"We want to inform the public, especially outside Sade, about the life and traces of its identity. As we know, Sade burned a few months ago. Although its cultural heritage objects were lost, its identity lives on in the community," Bunyamin said.
