House to hold necrological rites for late Quirino Gov. Dax Cua

MANILA, Philippines – The House of Representatives will hold a necrological service on Monday for the late Quirino Governor Dakilo Carlo “Dax” Cua, who previously served as a lawmaker before becoming the top local executive of the landlocked province in the north.

The service will be held from 9 a.m. to noon at the House plenary, according to the chamber’s statement.

“Monday’s necrological service will bring Cua back to the chamber where he spent nine years as a legislator, as the House pays its final respects to a former colleague whose public career began in Quirino and grew into a voice for local governments far beyond his province,” it said.

Cua spent nine years as representative of Quirino’s lone district, during which he served as chair of the House Ways and Means Committee and became a principal author of the 2017 Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion Law that lowered personal income tax and raised excise levies on select products.

He also served as chair of the House Ecology Committee during his 2010-2019 term as congressman.

House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III will lead the necrological service in the House, with former speakers Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, Feliciano Belmonte Jr. and Pantaleon Alvarez expected to deliver eulogies.

Cua is survived by his wife, Quirino Rep. Midy Cua; their children, Dominique Marie, Dakila Miguel and Diandra Marie; and his parents, former Quirino Rep. Junie Cua and Angela Cua. /mcm
