Winnie Odinga Officially Declares 2027 Nairobi Senatorial Bid

Translate

East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member Winnie Odinga has officially declared her intention to contest the Nairobi Senatorial seat in the 2027 General Election, marking her entry into county politics.

She made the announcement on Thursday, October 15, 2026, during the first-anniversary commemoration of her father, the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, at the Migwena Cultural and Sports Grounds in Bondo, Siaya County.

Winnie framed her declaration around the political realignment in Nairobi, pointing to incumbent Senator Edwin Sifuna’s presidential ambitions under the Linda Mwananchi Movement (LMM).

“Let it not be a rumour that as Edwin Sifuna searches for higher offices, I see there is some space in Nairobi and that is why I have decided I will vie for Senator of Nairobi county,” Winnie announced.

The announcement positions the EALA MP to step directly into competitive elective politics, leveraging her regional legislative background as political parties restructure their line-ups ahead of the 2027 general contest.
