The Kano State Police Command has arrested two 19-year-old men over alleged unlawful possession of a firearm and recovered a locally made revolver pistol and two rounds of live ammunition.

The police said one suspect, Rufai Ahmed of Hotoro Quarters, Kano, was arrested at about 10.30 pm on October 11, 2026, after a surveillance team intercepted a tricycle along Sokoto Road on suspicion of criminal activity.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, officers attached to the Farm Centre Police Division discovered a bag containing the firearm and ammunition during a search.

The statement said Ahmed was immediately arrested and the recovered items taken as exhibits.

“Further investigation ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, led to the arrest of another suspect, Aliyu Ibrahim, 19, of Kawo Quarters, Kano, in connection with the case,” the statement added.

The police said the arrests followed directives by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on intelligence-led policing, efforts to recover illegal firearms and a zero-tolerance approach to criminal activities.

“The Commissioner of Police directed investigators to intensify their inquiries, after which the suspects would be charged in court,” Kiyawa said.

Bakori commended the officers involved in the operation for their vigilance and professionalism, while reiterating the command’s commitment to tackling illegal arms possession and other criminal activities in the state.

The police also urged residents to support security efforts by providing timely, credible information to help prevent crime.
