Robin Finck Is Selling His Nine Inch Nails and GN’R Guitars

Musician selling guitar he played at Woodstock '94 and on Twin Peaks: The Return

Robin Finck, who has played guitar for decades variously in Nine Inch Nails and Guns N’ Roses, will start selling some of those guitars on Reverb next week. The Official Robin Finck Reverb Shop will open its virtual doors to offload some 200 items on Nov. 11.

One of the most notable items he’s selling is the Gibson Les Paul ’60 Reissue Goldtop guitar he’s nicknamed “Old Gold.” Finck joined Nine Inch Nails in 1994 and played the guitar at the band’s memorably muddy Woodstock ’94 performance, in the band’s music video for “March of the Pigs,” and on the Self Destruct tour. He played this instrument on every Nine Inch Nails tour he participated in through 2014.

“On the day we shot the video for ‘March of the Pigs,’ that version of Nine Inch Nails had never played a show in front of an audience,” Finck said in a statement. “My whole world was about to tilt. This is the only guitar that made it out of 1994 intact. I don’t know why or how because it’s also the guitar I played more than any other.”

He’s also selling a “translucent white” 1990 Gibson Les Paul Custom that hold sentimental value to him. “It’s the only guitar I had when I landed in Nine Inch Nails,” he said. “I’ve played it for over 35 years. It has always been favored.”

It seems like Finck may be selling all these instruments just to save a little space wherever he stores them. “I’ve genuinely used and enjoyed all of these pieces, so much so that I’ve ended up with two or even three of some of them,” he said. “You know I love all these sweeties, I just don’t need multiples of them anymore. I have been so fortunate to have played these on stages all over the world, and now they’re poised to play with someone new.”

Finck is also selling other Fender and Gibson guitars that he played with Nine Inch Nails and Guns N’ Roses. Perhaps most interesting is the Fano Alt de Facto PX6 guitar he played with Nine Inch Nails for the filming of the band’s scene in Twin Peaks: The Return. “I’m an enormous fan of Twin Peaks and all things David Lynch,” he said. “It was just so cool to be on set and experience David calling out from his collapsible canvas director’s chair.” He’s also selling several effects and fuzz pedals including the DOD FX25 Envelope Filter he used to record Guns N’ Roses’ “Better.”

It’s worth noting that Finck is selling the instruments, not auctioning them, so interested parties should shop early.
