Coronation Street reveals dramatic first look at Sarah's trial as she fears the worst

Coronation Street has released a brand-new trailer, offering a dramatic first look at Sarah Barlow’s long-awaited trial, with episodes set to air from Wednesday 14 October. Viewers know that Sarah, played by Tina O'Brien, was arrested and charged with the murder of Theo Silverton in July.

In flashback scenes aired in June, Sarah was revealed to be Theo's killer and shown using a scaffolding pole to kill him after confronting him over the abuse by her friend Todd Grimshaw.

After spending months in prison, Sarah will finally have the chance to plead her case in court next week, as she tries to convince a jury that she acted in self-defence.

The atmospheric new promo trailer sees a terrified Sarah standing in the dock as an ominous voiceover calls her a "cold-blooded murderer".

Teasing what's to come, a terrified Sarah says: "I think we need to prepare for the worst."

Speaking about Sarah's court scenes, O’Brien said that Sarah starts to doubt herself after hearing the prosecution.

O’Brien said: "Sarah is absolutely terrified, she has been desperate for this day to come but the reality of being brought up from the cells and standing in the dock is overwhelming. As the prosecution case is laid out, she is not sure things will go her way."

Will Sarah walk free from court or will the jury find her guilty of murder?

Asked if he's involved, Gareth said: "Yeah, I will be! There's quite a few of us, when it was unclear who had done it, who were potentially in the frame – and I suppose are now potentially witnesses for that evening and what happened.

"[They're also] witnesses for the character that Theo was in the lead-up to it. That will form a big part of Sarah's defence – that it was an act of self-defence."

Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
