Bhasera takes over from Kaizer Chiefs legend at Zimbabwean club

Former Zimbabwe international Onismor Bhasera has been appointed FC Platinum’s new assistant coach, replacing Kaizer Chiefs legend Reneilwe “Yeye” Letsholonyane.

The Zimbabwean Premier Soccer League side confirmed Bhasera’s appointment in a statement on Thursday, 24 September, as Letsholonyane leaves the club for a head coaching position in Botswana.

Bhasera will join head coach Thabo Senong’s technical team as FC Platinum look to strengthen their squad and remain competitive at the highest level.

Bhasera replaces Kaizer Chiefs legend

Letsholonyane only recently joined FC Platinum alongside Senong after previously working as head coach of Botswana side Matebele FC.

The former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana midfielder has now left the Zvishavane-based club after receiving an opportunity to take charge of a team in Botswana.

He is reportedly set to take over at Botswana giants Mochudi Centre Chiefs.

Letsholonyane, affectionately known as Yeye, had previously made a name for himself as a player at Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United before moving into coaching.

He was also nominated for Botswana’s Coach of the Season award after helping Matebele retain their top-flight status during the 2025/26 campaign.

The return to Zimbabwe

Bhasera brings considerable playing experience to FC Platinum after a career that included spells in Zimbabwe, South Africa and England.

The former left-back played for Kaizer Chiefs before moving to Plymouth Argyle in England.

He also represented Maritzburg United, Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United during his South African career.

He earned international caps for Zimbabwe and later moved into coaching.

Bhasera most recently served as an assistant coach at South African Premiership side Siwelele FC before leaving the club when his contract expired at the end of the 2025/26 season.

FC Platinum said his experience and leadership would add depth to the technical team.

“His experience, leadership and understanding of the game will add valuable depth to our technical team as we continue to strengthen the Club and build for the future,” the club said.

Bhasera will now work alongside Senong as FC Platinum continue their campaign, with the club saying the technical team will focus on player development, strengthening the squad and competing for honours.

The appointment also creates an interesting switch, with one former Kaizer Chiefs star replacing another on FC Platinum’s technical bench.
