Jakarta (ANTARA) - The administration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka has brought 10,070 Red and White Village Cooperatives (KDMP) into operation ahead of the administration’s second anniversary on October 20.
The Government Communications Agency (Bakom) said in a statement on Sunday that the figure was recorded as of October 15.
“KDMPs are being developed as rural economic hubs capable of shortening distribution chains and expanding market access for farmers and local businesses,” Bakom Deputy for Partnerships and Media Relations Kurnia Ramadhana said.
He added that the government expects village cooperatives to help maintain supplies of goods, strengthen producers’ bargaining power, and enable rural residents to gain a larger share of the benefits generated by economic activities.
The Cooperatives Ministry’s KDMP information system, Simkopdes, showed that village cooperatives had recorded 85,427 transactions worth a total of Rp208.64 billion (around US$11.5 million) as of October 16.
Rice sold in five-kilogram packages under the Food Supply and Price Stabilization (SPHP) program accounted for the largest share of transactions, worth Rp92.98 billion, followed by cooking oil at Rp47.07 billion.
The system also showed that construction of operational facilities had been completed for 28,402 village cooperatives by state-owned food company Agrinas Pangan Nusantara. Each project was allocated a budget of Rp3 billion.
As one of the flagship initiatives of the Prabowo-Gibran administration, the KDMP program is designed not only to serve as a distribution hub for staple goods but also to help market agricultural produce and products from local businesses.
The government envisions each village cooperative operating multiple business units to support rural economies, including grocery stores, pharmacies, and clinics, as well as banking, storage, and distribution services. The program reflects President Prabowo and Vice President Gibran’s emphasis on advancing national development from the village level.
