With the city experiencing light, persistent rain through the first half of Friday, both teams were forced to alter their training plans. These were already unusual, with the teams scheduled to train at Basin Reserve rather than Hnry Stadium which is the match venue. New Zealand moved their practice session to the indoor facility at Wellington College, while India called theirs off.

More rain is forecast on Saturday, with a 60% chance of precipitation in the first half of the day, according to AccuWeather, and a 55% chance in the second half.

The series-opener in Auckland was weather-affected too, with the start of the match delayed by 10 minutes, and India's target revised from 186 in 50 overs to 143 in 32 after two spells of rain, totalling approximately an hour and 40 minutes, that fell during their chase.

India eventually won by five wickets, with Virat Kohli scoring a 51-ball 74 in their chase and Anshul Kamboj taking the Player-of-the-Match award for his 2 for 22 from 10 overs.

After Saturday's match in Wellington, the series will move to Hamilton for the third ODI on November 10, and then to Mount Maunganui for the fourth and fifth ODIs on November 13 and 15.
