Syed Saddiq remembers Siti Hasmah through love, legacy

KUALA LUMPUR: Muar member of parliament Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has chosen to remember the late Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali by celebrating her life, love and contributions to the country rather than through tears alone.

In a social media post, he said people had different ways of dealing with loss and grief, but what mattered most was the intention behind how they chose to do so.

"Everyone grieves differently. What matters most is the intention. Because in the end, this is not about us," he said on Instagram.

Syed Saddiq said Dr Siti Hasmah's passing was not merely the loss of a prominent figure, but also the end of an extraordinary love story between two people who complemented each other throughout their lives.

He described the relationship between the late Dr Siti Hasmah and Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as more than love, saying it was a lasting friendship and companionship that endured until the end of their lives.

"And perhaps, when love itself is no longer enough to describe it, it becomes something deeper — companionship.

"A life companion. A companion in the struggle. A companion until the end of life," he said.

At the same time, Syed Saddiq remembered Dr Siti Hasmah as a woman who spent her life making those around her feel valued, loved and special.

He said she also continued to serve those in need regardless of their background.

"This is also the story of a woman who spent her life making those around her feel valued, loved and special, while continuing to serve those in need, regardless of who they were.

"So, I choose to grieve in a different way," he said.

Syed Saddiq said he chose to remember Dr Siti Hasmah not solely through sadness, but by celebrating the life she lived, the love she gave and the legacy she left behind in Malaysia.

"I choose to remember Tun (Dr Siti Hasmah) not only with tears, but by celebrating the life she lived, the love she gave and the indelible mark she left on the pages of Malaysia's history and in all our hearts," he said.
