KLIA aerotrain to undergo software upgrade after 20,000 operational hours

The KLIA aerotrain will undergo a scheduled software upgrade to strengthen its operational endurance and support long-term performance, having completed 20,000 continuous operational hours.
Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) said the upgrade would be carried out in two phases, with aerotrain services suspended from midnight to 5am.
The first phase, involving field testing from Oct 8 to 17, will see the software update installed and tested under actual operating conditions to verify its performance and functionality.
The results will undergo a comprehensive independent safety assessment before the second phase from Nov 28 to Dec 1, after which it will be permanently deployed on the aerotrain system.
Bus service will operate throughout the upgrade and testing periods to ensure uninterrupted transfers between the main terminal and satellite building.
MAHB said the KLIA aerotrain system had maintained 99.9% availability since June. It also completed 167,481 return trips and carried about 23.55 million passengers over the past one and a half years.
“Our priority is to ensure that the aerotrain continues to provide a reliable and smooth service for passengers at KLIA,” KLIA chief operating officer Adam Nicholas Wilson said in the statement.
“Planned activities such as this software update are part of our ongoing efforts to maintain this level of performance and support the system’s reliability over the longer term.”
