This could endanger the interests and sovereignty of the nation and state,

Jakarta (ANTARA) - State Secretary Prasetyo Hadi said alleged wiretapping, destruction of electronic evidence, and unauthorized access to communications involving the president and other state officials could potentially constitute treason.

“We believe the actions may fall within the scope of offenses that could be considered acts of treason,” he said at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Hadi said the alleged actions also threatened state interests, including the safety of the head of state.

He described the alleged activities targeting the president and several state officials as serious offenses, particularly because they are governed by law.

“Carrying out wiretapping, destroying electronic evidence, and gaining unauthorized access to matters governed by our laws, particularly when the head of state and state officials are involved, is certainly a serious matter,” he said.

Hadi said the government had yet to establish the motive behind the alleged wiretapping, as the police investigation was still underway. He stressed that the alleged interception of state leaders’ communications warranted attention because of the sensitive information involved and the potential risks to national interests and sovereignty.

“There is a lot of very sensitive information. This could endanger the interests and sovereignty of the nation and state,” he said.

According to Hadi, President Prabowo Subianto had instructed National Police Chief General Suyudi Ario Seto to ensure that the legal process was conducted objectively and in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

The National Police Criminal Investigation Agency previously named three police officers, identified by the initials LSP, ASN, and EH, as suspects in the alleged wiretapping, destruction of electronic evidence, and unauthorized access.

The agency’s chief, Commissioner General Asep Safrudin, said the suspects allegedly intercepted communications involving the president, ministers, state officials, political figures, and media representatives beginning in 2025. The operation reportedly continued into 2026.
