La Liga president Javier Tebas has strongly rejected what he called accusations of a refereeing “conspiracy” from Real Madrid after their 2-1 derby defeat to Atletico Madrid.
Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho, in his post-match press conference following Sunday’s loss, produced two printed screenshots of tackles by Atletico players that he believed should have resulted in red cards.
Javier Tebas then responded to a pro-Real Madrid social media post with a highly detailed rebuttal to claims of a systematic bias against the 15-time European champions.

“Here they go again, the mouthpieces and the regime’s television, building the same old narrative -- the permanent conspiracy,” said Tebas, who has frequently clashed with Real Madrid and its president Florentino Perez. “This article goes further -- it claims that referees harm ‘The business that feeds them’. What exactly is it asking for? Refereeing based on revenue, viewership, or the badge? What a way to understand equality in the competition.”
He also added: “Real Madrid are crucial to La Liga. But claiming that ‘La Liga is worth nothing’ without them reveals the disdain for the other clubs, their fans, and their history. The competition belongs to no one.”

He continued on to say “Claiming that referees are directed against Real Madrid is living in another galaxy. That narrative serves as an excuse to cover up other shortcomings that are plain to see in these first matches of the season. It’s more comfortable to point to a conspiracy than to explain what’s happening on the pitch.”
Real Madrid has struggled early in the campaign and currently trail the La Liga leaders FC Barcelona by six points. Mourinho returned for a second stint at the Santiago Bernabeu over the summer, he was brought in to end the club’s two-year trophy drought.
