Goodfellas Unveils First Images For Toho’s Sci-Fi Thriller ‘Leviathan’ & Fall Lineup – AFM

EXCLUSIVE: Goodfellas has unveiled first images for Toho’s highly anticipated sci-fi thriller Leviathan, a live action adaptation of Shiro Kuroi’s best-selling manga, as it launches sales ahead of the AFM.

Set in 2127, the film follows a group of students pitted against each other in a brutal battle for survival in the depths of space after a catastrophic accident leaves the spacecraft they are traveling in adrift and low on oxygen, and with only one life support.

The film is directed by Michihito Fujii, who recently took credits on Netflix hit Last Samurai Standing, and Ryohei Shingu. Fujii also takes screenplay credits with Izumi Takahashi.

The movie follows in the wake of a string of buzzy features for Japanese studio Toho which has recently enjoyed global success with Neon-acquired Exit 8 and the Godzilla franchise. It will release Leviathan in Japan on February 11, 2027.

The cast is led by Shunsuke Michieda (Even If This Love Disappears From The World) and Natsuki Deguchi (Look Back).

Paris-based Goodfellas is handling all international territories outside of Asia and will unveil a first promo reel for the film, currently in post-production, at the AFM.

Goodfellas’ falls slate also features previously announced sci-fi The Girl Who Was Plugged In, directed by Jennifer Kent (The Babadook, The Nightingale).

Sophie Thatcher (Companion) stars in the dual role of a disfigured and suicidal 19-year-old woman who is recruited by a powerful tech corporation to remotely control ‘Delphi’, a beautiful but brainless ‘human body’, grown in a lab to influence the public and sell products. Pre-production is underway on the feature announced ahead of Cannes.

Further upcoming previously announced features include Mia Hansen-Løve’s If Love Should Die, starring Renate Reinsve as trail-blazing writer Mary Wollstonecraft as she travels from the UK to France at the height of the Terror.

Titles in post-production include Michel Hazanavicius’ “radical fantastique drama” The Third Hand, starring Francois Civil (Beating Hearts) as a young French soldier who is wounded in battle and awakes in the laboratory of mad scientist to discover a hand has been grafted into abdomen.

Completed films on the slate include Michaël R. Roskam’s World War Two Belgian resistance drama Le Faux Soir and Kamila Andini’s Four Seasons, about a woman who finds herself an outcast on returning to her home village after two decades in prison. Both played at Toronto.

Four Seasons is Indonesia’s entry to the 99th Academy Awards race, with the Goodfellas slate also featuring Cannes Palme d’Or winner and Romanian entry Fjord and hot Spanish contender La Bola Negra, both of which are sold out.
