Cops probe Form 2 student’s death as murder, minister orders audit

Police are investigating the death of a Form 2 student at a sports school in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan as a murder, while education minister Fadhlina Sidek has ordered an immediate audit of the school’s safety compliance.

State police chief Alzafny Ahmad said a 16-year-old male student has been arrested to assist in the murder probe following the incident which occurred around 8pm yesterday in the school’s dormitory.

Separately, Fadhlina said she went to the school this morning to meet its management, as well as district and state education officials, and to ask the police for an update on the case.

“The education ministry and school will fully cooperate with the police.

“At the ministry level, safety aspects and compliance issues at the school will be reviewed holistically. I have ordered an immediate audit to identify possible non-compliance with the school’s operations,” she said in a statement.

The minister said she met the family of the victim at the hospital today to convey her sympathies, adding that no one would be protected if any wrongdoing was discovered.

“Appropriate action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation and according to the law.

“The ministry will also provide counselling and psychosocial support for the family of the deceased, as well as the students and teachers who are affected by this incident,” she said.
