INEC trains SPOs for Gombe constituency bye-election

The Independent National Electoral Commission in Gombe State has concluded the training of Supervisory Presiding Officers ahead of the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency bye-election scheduled for Saturday, September 19, 2026.

The training, which commenced on Thursday, September 10, 2026, was designed to equip the SPOs with the knowledge and practical skills required for the effective conduct of the election.

The sessions covered the handling and deployment of electoral materials, polling procedures, the operation of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, the improved INEC Results Viewing Portal, election security and practical election-day simulations.

According to our correspondent, The trained SPOs are expected to cascade the training to Presiding Officers and Assistant Presiding Officers from Monday, September 14, to Wednesday, September 16, 2026, across Gombe, Kwami and Funakaye Local Government Areas, which make up the federal constituency.

Speaking during one of the training sessions, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Gombe State, Alhaji Umar Mukhtar Gajiram, said the commission was committed to ensuring that all personnel deployed for the bye-election were adequately trained and prepared for their responsibilities.

Represented by the Head of Department, Electoral Operations, the REC said, “The Commission is committed to ensuring that all personnel deployed for the bye-election are adequately trained and prepared to discharge their responsibilities professionally, impartially and in accordance with the provisions of the law and established electoral procedures.”

Gajiram assured residents of the commission’s readiness to conduct a credible bye-election, urging registered voters in the constituency to participate en masse in the exercise.

He said, “We assure citizens of the state of the Commission’s readiness to deliver a credible bye-election. We therefore urge all registered voters within the constituency to come out en masse and cast their votes for the candidate of their choice.”
