KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 — Sony Pictures has unveiled the official poster for Ramayana: Rise of a Legend, offering a fresh look at the upcoming Hindi-language epic ahead of its November release.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the two-part adaptation stars Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Yash as Ravana and Sai Pallavi as Sita.

Ramayana: Rise of a Legend — Part 1 is set to open in Malaysia on November 5 and will be presented in IMAX and other premium large formats.

The film is based on the Ramayana, one of India’s best-known ancient epics, which chronicles the life and adventures of Prince Rama, an incarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu.

Traditionally attributed to the sage Valmiki, the Sanskrit epic comprises roughly 24,000 verses divided into seven books, known as kandas.

The project was first announced in 2017 as a live-action adaptation and was initially conceived as a trilogy.

After several years of development and script refinement, it was reworked as a two-part film series under Tiwari’s direction.

With a reported budget of around ₹4,000 crore, Ramayana: Rise of a Legend has been described as one of the most expensive Indian film projects ever mounted.

The first trailer, released worldwide earlier this year, offered glimpses of Ravana’s introduction, Rama’s exile and several large-scale battle sequences.

The footage also featured a reimagined Pushpak Vimana, the flying chariot from the epic, set against a sweeping cosmic backdrop.

Tiwari co-wrote the screenplay with Shridhar Raghavan, while Namit Malhotra serves as producer.

Malhotra is the founder of visual effects company DNEG, whose credits include The Odyssey, Dune, Interstellar and Inception.

The production brings together visual effects artists who have worked on major Hollywood films, with the epic also set to be presented in 3D.

Tiwari previously directed Dangal, the 2016 sports drama starring Aamir Khan that became one of the highest-grossing Indian films worldwide.

The score is composed by Academy Award winners Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman.

The film is expected to screen worldwide in multiple languages, including English and Tamil, with screenings also planned for Malaysia.

Ramayana: Rise of a Legend — Part 1 is set to open in Malaysia on November 5, coinciding with the Diwali period, and will be presented in IMAX and other premium large formats.
