Poldark, the iconic and swoonworthy period drama starring Aidan Turner, has landed a new UK streaming home. ITVX has announced the acquisition of the series, with all five seasons available to stream from 10 September.

First airing in 2015, the historical drama stars Turner as Captain Ross Poldark, a soldier who returns to Cornwall following the American Revolutionary War.

Based on the 1975 show of the same name, the series also stars Eleanor Tomlinson, Jack Farthing, Heida Reed, Kyle Soller, and Luke Norris alongside Turner.

The synopsis reads: "After spending three years fighting in the American War of Independence, Poldark must rebuild his life in the small Cornish copper mining town he calls home.

"However, when he finds his father dead, his estate in ruins and his childhood sweetheart Elizabeth (Reed) engaged to his cousin, the life he once knew seems to no longer exist.

"With the help of his new maid Demelza (Tomlinson), Ross attempts to navigate the hostile, poverty-stricken locals and the region's wealthy and influential businessmen to reopen his family's disused copper mine, Wheal Leisure."

Season one of Poldark was popular with critics and is currently Certified Fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, with a 91% score from 23 reviews.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette said: "Mr Turner makes a captivating lead, swashbuckling across the screen as he puts those lazy servants in their place."

"Thankfully...the series delivers immediately on the panoramic scenery and romance that this genre demands: plunging cliffs, green fields, galloping horses and burning glances aplenty," penned The New York Times.

Variety said: "Much in the vein of Wuthering Heights, the series mixes class distinctions and romance, offering the kind of classy soap that should help keep Anglophiles' cockles happily warmed between now and more Downton Abbey."

"Turner – best known as the improbably hot dwarf who romanced Evangeline Lilly in The Hobbit – smolders, the women in his life pine, and there's enough intrigue, plot twists, and back stabs to hook even the most devoted Shonda Rhimes fan," wrote Vanity Fair.

The Hollywood Reporter said of the show: "The series is akin to hungrily flipping through one of those florid airport novels with Fabio on the cover. And that's meant as a compliment."

Poldark seasons 1 to 5 will be available to stream from 10 September
