Accra Academy defend ODADEƐ ’90 5-a-side title

Accra Academy have successfully defended their ODADEƐ ’90 5-a-side tournament title after beating Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC) 4-0 in the final at the Accra Academy AstroTurf park.

The Bleoo Boys retained the trophy after also winning the inaugural edition last year when PRESEC hosted the tournament.

Seven schools took part in this year’s competition, which brought together old students for a day of football, friendship and celebration.

The tournament also provided an opportunity for former students to reunite, reconnect and relive old memories through music, dancing, food and entertainment.

Amos Jkieh, captain of the Accra Academy 1992 year group, is already targeting a third consecutive title.

“Last year we won it at PRESEC when they hosted it and we’ve won it again this year. We hope to retain the cup when we travel to Kumasi next year, when it’s hosted by Opoku Ware and Prempeh College,” he said.

President of the ODADEƐ ’90 year group, Brigadier General Lawrence Deku, said the tournament goes beyond football and provides a platform for old friends to reconnect.

“This event is to bring all of us together, to promote friendship and good spirits. We all reckon that we’re 50-plus, and we use platforms like these to exercise ourselves,” he said.

The next edition of the ODADEƐ ’90 5-a-side tournament will be held in Kumasi, with Opoku Ware School and Prempeh College set to host.
