Natuna air base conducts defense readiness drills

Natuna, Riau Islands (ANTARA) - Raden Sadjad Air Force Base in Natuna, Riau Islands, has conducted a defense exercise to strengthen personnel readiness against potential threats to the military installation in Indonesia's border region.
Base commander Air Commodore Onesmus Gede Rai Aryadi said the two-day exercise was held on Tuesday (October 27) and Thursday (October 29) at the base.
The exercise, part of the base's operations program, began with classroom instruction on Tuesday and continued with field drills on Thursday.
“Training covered map reading, land navigation, terrain assessment, squad patrols, reconnaissance, base security, ambush and interdiction tactics, marksmanship with standard-issue weapons, and water-crossing techniques,” he was quoted as saying on Sunday.
Troops practiced defending strategic sites and key Air Force assets, using ground-defense formations and responding to simulated attacks and security breaches. The drills tested individual skills and teamwork.
The exercise scenario involved a hostile group infiltrating the base and sabotaging assets and critical facilities, based on intelligence indicating potential security threats.
A platoon was deployed to patrol the base, inspect assets and critical facilities, and conduct sweeps and pursuit operations. During the sweeps, troops engaged in simulated firefights with the hostile group at several locations.
Participants included the base's operations, security, military police, personnel, logistics and intelligence units, as well as its air force hospital. Instructors came from the 14th Air Defense Battalion of the Air Force's Quick Reaction Forces Corps.
“Every service member must understand their duties and responsibilities, follow procedures and maintain coordination to ensure the base can be defended quickly and effectively,” he said.
