The plans for Michael B. Jordan's I Am Legend 2 look even more promising today, several years after we first received word there were plans for the sequel film to become reality. Given the lastingly positive reception of I Am Legend, it makes sense that the prime opportunity of continuing the story has been hit upon, particularly in an era where other decades-later movie sequels like 28 Years Later have expanded pre-existing series in a way that has strengthened rather than diminished their impact and popularity.

Though there has been a considerable gap between I Am Legend and its sequel - and indeed, I Am Legend 2 still seems to be very much in the early stages of development, leading to concerns the film may never come to fruition - this has actually positioned the future film in a way that seems to benefit it in the long term, making it all the more worth the wait.

Between how the years have been kind to the vampire genre, and how Michael B. Jordan's own star has risen considerably in recent history, I Am Legend 2 being a project that has taken its time looks as though it should pay off for the film, showing already how a longer production period can be for the best overall for this kind of film endeavor.

The news in 2022 that a sequel I Am Legend was in the works was a promising update by itself, since I Am Legend's reputation has in many ways only strengthened over time, and the ending of I Am Legend left the door open in a major way for follow-up stories. This is especially true given the movie's more loose way of handling its source material left a lot of story potential untapped in its own narrative that could be used in a sequel.

While the wait for the film has been a no doubt grueling one for many fans of the original, it's one that has also helped bolster the film in several key ways, that should help the sequel be an even bigger success when it finally hits the big screen for audiences to enjoy.

First and foremost, Michael B. Jordan - who was revealed to be set to play a main role in I Am Legend 2 - has become even more of a household name in recent years, thanks to his much-praised performances in Sinners, Swapped, and both Black Panther and Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever.

Each of these films displays Jordan's acting talents in a way that makes the prospect of him headlining I Am Legend 2 seem like a fruitful deal for the movie and actor alike, though Sinners is perhaps the most directly relevant here, since its own vampire-focused story shows Michael B. Jordan is more than capable of making a supernatural story feel believable, immeasurably emotional, and gripping throughout.

Thankfully, the way in which the vampire genre has moved more broadly also meshes well with the direction it appears I Am Legend 2 would be taking, which bodes well for the prospect of a sequel appearing on the horizon.

More and more, modern vampire media has explored the idea of what it means to be human through its supernatural entities by portraying these figures in a far more human light - as can be seen in everything from Twilight and What We Do In The Shadows to more horror-focused releases like Midnight Mass and Sinners itself.

With I Am Legend and its source material similarly exploring this matter before it was as popular and well-received a subject on-screen as it is now, it seems I Am Legend 2's release could be particularly fortuitous in this regard as well if it chooses to go down the same lines with its vampire-and-zombie-esque Darkwalkers, which would seem par for the course given the 2007 film previously teased there being more to these entities than initially meets the eye.
