Asian Games 2026: India’s Anahat, Abhay reach singles semifinals; Joshna-Velavan confirm mixed doubles medal

Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh progressed to the semifinals in singles while Joshna Chinappa and Velavan Senthilkumar assured themselves of at least a bronze in mixed doubles as Indian squash players had another solid day at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026.

Anahat, the junior world champion, took just 19 minutes to beat compatriot Tanvi Khanna 3-0 (11-2, 11-5, 11-3). The Indian teenager will face her first major test on Saturday when she faces World No. 6 and home favourite Satomi Watanabe in the semifinals.

Abhay took down Japan’s Ryunosuke Tsukue 3-0 (11-4, 11-3, 11-6) in 34 minutes and awaits the winner of the quarterfinal between compatriot Veer Chotrani and Pakistan’s Muhammad Irfan.

Joshna and Velavan didn’t face much trouble in their 2-0 (11-3, 11-5) quarterfinal victory over David Pelino and Jemyca Aribado of the Philippines. Unlike singles, reaching the semifinals in mixed doubles means a place on the podium is guaranteed.

In the final-four clash, the Indian duo will take on Lee Ka Yi and Tang Ming Hong of Hong Kong, China.

Both winners in singles will qualify for Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 when the sport will make its Summer Games debut.
