Trade Ministry, BPJPH seal deal on halal product assurance supervision

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Trade and the Halal Product Assurance Agency (BPJPH) signed a cooperation agreement on Thursday covering halal product oversight and guidance in the trade sector.

Moga Simatupang, Director General of Consumer Protection and Trade Compliance at the Ministry of Trade, expressed hope that the agreement will establish structured, effective, and sustainable joint initiatives aligned with each agency's duties, functions, and authorities.

"Through this synergy, the government aims to foster a more orderly trade ecosystem, drive greater compliance among businesses, and better protect consumers while providing them with clear product information," Simatupang said in a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

The agreement supports the implementation of Law No. 33/2014 on Halal Product Assurance and Government Regulation No. 42/2024 on the Implementation of Halal Product Assurance.

It follows a memorandum of understanding signed between BPJPH and the Trade Ministry on May 12.

Partnership areas include data and information exchange, business guidance, market oversight, human resources capacity building, and coordinated handling of non-compliant products.

BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hassan welcomed the collaboration as a strategic step to bolster the national halal ecosystem.

He emphasized that supervising halal products requires robust cross-sectoral cooperation.

"Collaboration with the Ministry of Trade is expected to strengthen the guidance and supervision of halal products, making halal assurance implementation more effective, protecting the public, and providing business operators with regulatory certainty," he said.

Moving forward, the partnership will be implemented through measurable programs delivering tangible benefits to the public, businesses, and government administration.
