Indonesia advocates for stronger ASEAN cybersecurity resilience

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia advocated for strengthening cybersecurity resilience in the Southeast Asian region during the 11th ASEAN Ministerial Conference on Cybersecurity (AMCC), held as part of Singapore International Cyber Week (SICW) 2026.

Speaking in Singapore on Wednesday (October 14), the Head of Indonesia's National Cyber and Crypto Agency (BSSN), Nugroho Sulistyo Budi, emphasized the critical need for collective regional defense against increasingly complex cyber threats.

"This cybersecurity resilience must be founded on trust, transparency, respect for national sovereignty, and the strengthening of cooperation that is inclusive and oriented toward tangible results," Nugroho said in a statement Thursday.

Nugroho stated that Indonesia will continue to push for enhanced operational cooperation among national Computer Emergency Response Teams (CERTs) and the strengthening of Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) protection.

Additionally, Indonesia highlighted the importance of capacity building to address artificial intelligence (AI)-driven threats, online fraud, ransomware, and the transition toward post-quantum cryptography (PQC).

He also urged ASEAN member states to expand international partnerships with the technology industry and academia to boost regional threat anticipation capabilities.

The high-level meeting, chaired by Singapore’s Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo, brought together cybersecurity ministers, senior officials from across ASEAN, representatives from the ASEAN Secretariat, and international dialogue partners.

The conference marked a major policy milestone as ASEAN member states formally welcomed the ASEAN Cybersecurity Cooperation Strategy 2026–2030.

The strategic roadmap outlines unified guidelines for threat intelligence sharing, capacity building, and emergency response operations over the next five years.

During the meeting, Indonesia reiterated its commitment to upholding ASEAN Centrality in regional digital governance—positioning the ten-nation bloc to maintain strategic independence while building an interoperable defense against global cyber risks.
