Saudi Arabia issues danger alerts for Dammam, Dhahran and Abqaiq amid Houthi threats

Saudi Arabia sounds alarm in 3 cities after Houthi attack claims

Saudi Arabia's civil defence on Sunday issued warnings of potential danger in three eastern cities, Dammam, Dhahran and Abqaiq, amid heightened security concerns following a series of attacks claimed by Yemen's Iran-backed Houthi rebels. The civil defence issued separate alerts for the three cities through posts on social media platform X, without specifying the nature of the potential threat. The warnings came amid continued Houthi threats and claims of attacks targeting the oil-rich kingdom.Days earlier, the Houthis had claimed responsibility for targeting Dammam airport in eastern Saudi Arabia, marking another escalation in the group's campaign against the kingdom.Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree had also claimed that the group targeted a Saudi early-warning radar system and a military transport aircraft in the kingdom's southwestern region. The latest alerts come against the backdrop of rising tensions between Saudi Arabia and the Iran-backed group, with the Houthis continuing to issue claims of military operations against Saudi targets.Meanwhile, Yemen has urged the Lebanese government to take coordinated and decisive action to stop Hezbollah from providing military assistance to the Houthi militia.Yemen's foreign minister Afrah Al-Zouba also backed Beirut's efforts to assert sovereign control over its territory and ensure that decisions on weapons and war remain exclusively with the Lebanese state.
