Discworld Is Officially Returning With Two New Adventures

Known as 'Cyberpunk 2077's' biggest fan, Angharad is a Welsh games writer who thrives in anything related to digital storytelling. If a video game explores the intricacies and horrors of womanhood, she is there.
Thanks to previous work at GAMINGbible, GameByte, The Loadout, Game Luster, Angharad has built a strong understanding of both the digital world and what fans want from it and is eager to share her thoughts and expertise with readers.
Created by what many consider to be one of the greatest authors of all time, the Discworld universe by Terry Pratchett continues to live on after his death. Consisting of fantasy novels, graphic novels, short stories, and more, Discworld began with The Colour of Magic, which was published in 1983 and concluded with The Shepherd's Crown in 2015, published posthumously.
With over 40 books making up the series, it is no wonder that Discworld is as popular as it is and, over time, it has been adapted into multiple video games and board games, and has even had its spotlight in both television and theater.
Now, over a decade since the last novel was released, the Discworld universe is back courtesy of two board games by Modiphius Entertainment. Available for pre-order now, the board games, titled 'Kill Sam Vimes' and 'Readers Digested' will feature stories that take place in the Pratchett universe, with each offering a unique experience to boot.
Created by Dom Westerland, Kill Sam Vimes tasks 2-6 players with becoming assassins in an attempt to dodge Sam Vimes' traps and finally take him down. The two teams of assassins will go head-to-head to outmaneuver each other, all whilst gaining points for their House. The House that wins will be the one that has assassins ready to strike, accumulating the most points in the process.
On the other hand, Readers Digested is inspired by Dr. Reiner Knizia’s Blue Moon City and takes place in the library of the Unseen University. Players will take on the role of assistant librarians who must help student wizards gain access to the library's resources during reading week. By helping the perplexed students and maintaining order in the library, this much more chilled-out experience is also recommended for two to four players and takes around an hour per game. Additionally, both a Standard and Deluxe edition will be available, with the latter offering upgraded components and even the chance to tackle it as a sole player.
Releases like this just go to show how loved Pratchett's world is years after his death. Despite it being over four decades since the first book in the Discworld universe was released, fans are still flocking to the fantasy world, whether that is courtesy of the official books, the short stories or, in this case, two brand-new board games.
If you miss the Discworld universe, and want to team up with friends to explore their stories in a whole new light, look no further than Kill Sam Vimes' and 'Readers Digested', which are available for pre-order now.
