Manchester United CEO Berrada confirms new stadium plans

Manchester United’s ambitious plans to build a new 100,000-seater stadium continue to progress, with CEO Omar Berrada confirming that the project remains a major priority for the club.

The proposed stadium, which is expected to be built close to the current Old Trafford site, is at the centre of a much wider regeneration project aimed at transforming the area around the club’s historic home. Berrada previously confirmed that United had reached a major milestone by securing the land required for the proposed development.

The club has described the project as one of its main long-term priorities Speaking about the club’s plans, Berrada reiterated that work is continuing on the proposed new stadium and the wider redevelopment of the Old Trafford area.

He said,

“Work continues on our ambition to build a new stadium as part of a much broader redevelopment of our surrounding area here at Old Trafford."

He also stressed that Manchester United will continue to engage with supporters throughout the process, particularly as the club develops the proposed location and plans for the new stadium.

The proposed stadium is expected to have a capacity of 100,000, which would make it the largest football stadium in the United Kingdom. United unveiled the proposed location earlier this year, with the new stadium planned approximately 350 metres from the existing Old Trafford.

The club intends to remain at Old Trafford until the new venue is ready. The project is part of a broader regeneration of the area, with the stadium intended to become the centrepiece of a new Stadium District. Manchester United’s latest financial update confirmed that securing the land for the proposed stadium represents a major milestone. Berrada described the new stadium as one of the club’s key areas of focus and said the completion of the land acquisition moves the long-term project forward.

However, significant stages remain before construction can begin, including detailed planning and financing arrangements. Reports have put the potential cost of the stadium at more than £2 billion.

For now, Manchester United remain committed to the vision of creating a modern 100,000-capacity home while preserving the club’s connection with the Old Trafford area. The project represents one of the biggest infrastructure ambitions in Manchester United’s history, and Berrada’s latest comments indicate that the club continues to work towards making the proposed new stadium a reality.
