A new horror game has recently arrived for free on Steam, and depending on your taste, it may be creepier than the Five Nights at Freddy’s series. Horror games often have different tactics for terrorizing players. Some of the most popular titles often rely on jump scares and menacing creatures to pursue the main character. Others invest in building oppressive worlds to explore, which is the case with another free horror game on Steam. However, some games combine both elements for a truly horrifying experience.

The Silent Hill IP is a great example of how this works. Not only are there scary creatures that follow you around, but the settings for the games in the franchise are also terrifying. Liminal space horror is also at a high right now, with several Backrooms-like games being released, including one with creepy Teletubbies that stalk you as you walk through a suffocating map. However, horror is all about creating tension and then having it explode with something, and a new game is doing that perfectly.

This New Steam Freebie Is Worth Your Time

The new free horror game on Steam is called SSTWL - Sector Breach. Available on Steam, the indie title is a point-and-click survival-horror game that will have you sit in an office for a work shift, but that’s where things get messy. Your job is to recover data files, but to do so, you’ll also have to watch cameras for monsters while also keeping an eye on the door. As you see monsters in certain rooms with your camera, you’ll have to try to blind them with lights, but this won’t work with every one of them.

You’ll also need to close doors so that they can’t progress. The thing is, you’ll be mostly distracted trying to recover those data files. As is described by the game itself, you’ll need to “keep your head on a swivel” so that you don’t miss anything. The tension created by this game’s surveillance system mechanics has already pleased players. At the time of writing, SSTWL - Sector Breach has a 95% Positive review status on Steam.

Like Five Nights At Freddy's, But Creepier

Based on the Scary Story Time With Liam YouTube channel, created by Liam Vickers, SSTWL - Sector Breach is very much inspired by Five Nights at Freddy’s. The whole idea of monitoring the area around you with surveillance cameras, while seeing creepy beings move around and approach you, is terrifying. However, the notion that you can’t pay full attention to the cameras at all times, since you also need to be on the lookout for those data files, makes it even more tense.

It’s the simple notion of multitasking that adds layers of horror to the game, knowing that there are creatures out there, getting closer. If you like this type of game, SSTWL - Sector Breach seems like a great choice, especially given that it’s completely free on Steam.
