Milan send scouts to Rome to watch Romano’s Italy debut

Alessandro Romano is widely expected to earn his Italy debut when the Azzurri take on Belgium in the Nations League on Friday evening, and the latest reports claim that Milan have sent scouts to watch the former Switzerland youth international at the Stadio Olimpico. 

Report: Milan scouts will watch Romano during Italy vs. Belgium

It has been a rapid rise to the top for Romano, who joined Cagliari from Roma during the summer transfer window, scored on his Serie A debut for his new side, switched international allegiances to Italy in September and is now in contention to start alongside Sandro Tonali and Nicolo Barella in Roberto Mancini’s second debut. 

Roma sent Romano to Cagliari on loan with a potential obligation to buy in a deal that will be worth a maximum of €6.5m, but Thursday’s reports indicate that the 20-year-old might already be worth around five times as much. 

And though he has only made five Serie A appearances for Cagliari, reports from Calciomercato.com claim that a queue of European clubs are beginning to register an interest. 

Among them is Milan, who have reportedly arranged accreditation for a scout to watch Romano in action at the Stadio Olimpico when Italy take on Belgium on Friday night. 

There have already been reports in Italy claiming that Juventus were interested in Romano before he joined Cagliari as well. Thursday’s update from Calciomercato claims that Inter and ‘several LaLiga clubs’ are also interested in Romano. 

Cagliari are not expected to entertain offers in January given that they have only just got their hands on Romano and have not even purchased him permanently from Roma yet, but Calciomercato claims that they could already be eyeing offers of around €25m ahead of the next summer transfer window, a figure which could feasibly rise even higher by the end of the campaign.
