Just over a week remains until the IPL 2027 retention deadline on November 17. This is the time when teams zero in on the players they want to retain and those they are willing to let go. Several trade rumours are already doing the rounds, with the most high-profile one involving Hardik Pandya moving to Punjab Kings in exchange for Arshdeep Singh joining Mumbai Indians. In the midst of this speculation, Cheteshwar Pujara gave his take on potential big-ticket player releases across all franchises. From Kolkata Knight Riders, he chose Cameron Green, who was bought for Rs 25.20 crore at the IPL 2026 auction.
"They can still get him back at the auction," Pujara said about the costliest overseas buy in IPL auction history.
For Chennai Super Kings, he said the choice could be between Matt Henry and Matthew Short. He added that his reading is that Royal Challengers Bengaluru may not release any player, considering they are the defending champions.
Pujara also suggested that Hardik Pandya could be released by Mumbai Indians. As far as Gujarat Titans are concerned, he said the choice could be between Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan, as neither performed up to expectations.

For Punjab Kings, Pujara's choice was between Xavier Bartlett and Lockie Ferguson. For Sunrisers Hyderabad too, Pujara went with two bowlers. He felt that one of Jaydev Unadkat and Harshal Patel could be released.
One among Prithvi Shaw and Karun Nair could be released, Pujara felt. Lucknow Super Giants might release their Rs 21-crore star Nicholas Pooran. However, if the team decides to back him, Ayush Badoni could be released. Pujara was also unsure about who Rajasthan Royals might release, before adding that they could part ways with one of their Indian players.
