Brian Thomas Jr. credits Jakobi Meyers for ‘big brother’ role

As Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Brian Thomas Jr. battles through another season of trade speculation and a decreased role on offense, one teammate in particular has become a source of support: fellow WR Jakobi Meyers.
Meyers was notably traded to the Jaguars during the 2025 season and quickly became a reliable target for quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Expectations were high for Thomas going into 2026, with a focus through the offseason clearly on rebuilding the chemistry with Lawrence. So far, though, Thomas has yet to rebound, and as such, trade speculation has begun to reach a fever pitch as the deadline approaches.

Thomas has arguably been surpassed not only by Parker Washington, who is clearly Jacksonville's WR1, but by Meyers as well. Yet Thomas said it's Meyers who has given him the most support and advice.
"That guy right there, Jakobi, for sure. He's been a big, big help for me," Thomas said. "He's like a big brother to me, bro. Anything I know, anything, any question I got, go to him. We was just, the other day, just after getting extra catches and just trying to get all like little tips from him. He's been a great teammate for me. That's all. He's been great, excellent for me."
Now in his eighth NFL season, Meyers has 20 catches for 285 yards and two touchdowns through six games. He was also voted one of Jacksonville's offensive captains before the season, with Liam Coen pointing to the veteran's immediate "impact and influence" on the team. Through it all, he's been one of Thomas' biggest advocates.

During the offseason, he praised Thomas' intelligence and upside and said the Jaguars as a whole tend to thrive when Thomas is playing well.
"Whenever B.T. has a good day, the whole team has a good day," Meyers said in June. "We all just want to keep putting that belief into him, so he knows how great we think he is."
