Mutahi Ngunyi claims Uhuru Kenyatta is plotting to reclaim Mt Kenya political influence

Translate

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has claimed that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is making a calculated effort to regain influence over the Mt Kenya political bloc, potentially setting the stage for a major shift in Kenyan politics through 2032.

Ngunyi made the remarks in a post on X on Sunday, October 4, 2026, while commenting on what he described as a significant political development in Kirinyaga County.

Uhuru’s alleged political strategy

According to Ngunyi, the developments in Kirinyaga point to a broader strategy by Uhuru to challenge Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s influence over the Mt Kenya region.

Gachagua has increasingly positioned himself as a key political figure in the region, particularly as political leaders begin laying the groundwork for the 2027 General Election.

Ngunyi suggested that Uhuru’s reported political activity could therefore be aimed at rebuilding his influence and reshaping the region’s political leadership.

If the former president succeeds in regaining a significant foothold in Mt Kenya, the move could have wider implications for national alliances and the political contest beyond 2027.
