Live-Action Quiztopia Series Unveils Trailer, Key Art

Translate

Netflix Japan revealed the main trailer and key art for Quiztopia, its eight-episode live-action series of Reiichi Sugimoto and Shinkichi Kato's Kokumin Quiz (National Quiz) manga, on Tuesday. The English-subtitled trailer includes scenes that feature 8,000 extras, as well as the in-story commercials with the government's propaganda messages.

Netflix describes the story:

The story takes place in an alternate Japan where Quiztopia, a National Quiz show, has become the country's supreme governing authority. Under the National Quiz Law, any contestant who survives the quiz can have virtually any wish granted by the government — wealth, fame, the death of an enemy, the erasure of a criminal record, even ownership of a national landmark. The broadcast draws enormous audiences, and even the brutal forced labor awaiting eliminated contestants is treated as entertainment in this cheerfully dystopian society. At the center of it all is KK (Takayuki Yamada), the show's iconic host and the public's chief provocateur — who comes into contact with a group plotting to bring down Quiztopia, setting off an incident that could awaken people consumed by this seductive nightmare.

Takayuki Yamada (live-action Densha Otoko's "Train Man," Bakuman.'s Akira Hattori, Gintama's Elizabeth) stars in the series as KK.

The cast includes:

Teruyuki Yoshida (live-action An Older Guy's VR First Love, My Brother’s Husband) is directing the series, and is also co-writing the scripts with Maggy. Yasunori Nishiki is composing the music.

The series premieres on Netflix on December 17.

Sugimoto and Kato serialized the manga in Kodansha's Morning magazine from 1993 to 1995. Kodansha published four compiled book volumes for the manga. Ohta Publishing re-released the manga in two compiled book volumes in 2001.
